General

Dave/Doom is away. He receives one Irreversible Antiplus™.

LAN Roundup

Discussed LAN. Official Numbers: 26 Machines running. The estimated number of attendees should be put at 40 for future LAN‘s as there were several members turning up over the duration expressing interest in bringing their machines to subsequent events.

Next LAN

Nutsy to book for week 8. (6pm Friday to 10pm Sunday) Official start @ 7pm will give over 50 hours of LAN. Signups to go live in week 6 and anouncements in Newsletter, at gaming and on website.

Karting

H addmitted he had done nothing and that he sucked. Whilst on the subject of sucking, more abuse was thrown at Dave. Unfortunately, he was not around to receive said abuse. Henry to book karting ASAP.

Nutsy’s Membership

/rest-of-exec bitchslaps Nutsy. Again.
Tom Cropper to join society.

Membership Cards

H to collect Laminate wallets from Union. Unresolved debate over spending the money used for membership cards on better things, most notably beer for the exec.

Finance Cards

Tom Cropper, Chris Fanning, and Dave De La Motte to meet and sign finance cards.

‘Blob’/Insomnia

Phil, Where are you?

Phil

New topic based on absence of Phil. H to have ‘father-to-son’ talk with Phil in an attempt to improve exec meeting attendance. List of things for Phil to do growing:
* Email list additions;
* B108/Insomnia maintenance & setup;
* Root passwords for Molotov, Blob, Mailman.
* Outdated molotov accounts to be sorted.

Pachyderm

Chrispy/Zig. E&OE

Any comments about the quality of these minnits will be ignored. If you want the job done properly and it’s not related to Quake3, keep it well away from Chrispy: He would appreciate that.

LUG

Tom Edwards has mailed the LUG list – James to forward the mail to exec list so we can see it. Tom Edwards to be added to mailing list, and Dave to mail him to let him know.

OSP

The old OSP is progressing slowly but steadily, and we have had a small number of new recruits for the OSP turn up to meetings, who have discussed possibilities for the next OSP.

FF

Henry to badger Union about Stacey, Laura being on the exec. Also Dave’s surname on website needs to be changed, and the exec positions on the website should be specified.

Membership + finance cards

James has a new finance card. Dave, Chris and Tom need to get together to get the other one at some point. The wallets for the membership cards have had to be re-ordered, so we won’t have them ready for the LAN. Chris to print about 50 of the cards themselves ASAP.

First social + gaming

  1. -55 people attended the Bar leg of the social, with 38 people turning up for ITS gaming. We now have a signed note from ITS saying that we have the ITS-011 booked 10–4 on Fridays and Saturdays. Food at gaming is not permitted. Phil to chase ITS about the 16GB quota we’re guaranteed by ITS. Phil to set up FTP account on Molotov for downloading stuff to ITS machines in the meantime.

Imsomnia + Warwickpiazza

Imsomnia is going into ITS, but no confirmation as to when. We are stil waiting to hear from Warwickpiazza.

LAN

Still waiting to see how many people sign up, but if we get less than 22 we’ll all go in LIB2. If there are more, we’ll split people arbitrarily. There won’t be a sleeping rota as there’s only one night, so it shouldn’t be a problem to have an exec member awake at all times. Henry to bring Teapot, and Chris the speakers. Dave to mail members one more time to drum up support for the LAN.

Other socials

Henry to book karting for Wednesday of week 7. We can open the signups now and put a news item on Molotov. The price should be about £20. Official Compsoc pub meetings on Mondays in City Arms (no lame excuses for not turning up) and future exec meetings to be held on Fridays at 7pm in Rootes reception.

Future exec

We need to keep an eye out for people to replace the current exec next year, as most of us will be leaving. Particularly important positions are Webmaster, Tech Officer and Secretary (:P).

Phil-related stuff

Dave to hassle Phil about attending meetings. We need to now from him the position regarding both Insomnia and Warwickpiazza. Also the state of the game servers which will go up on Insomnia, in particular there has been a recent Q3A update. We also need an FTP account on Molotov to download stuff at gaming sessions.

First social

We will ignore signups for the Friday gaming session, and if enough people turn up the exec will have to sit out. If even more people turn up then the extra will have to go into the other room. At the first social, the exec can introduce themselves and answer any questions from the membership.

Membership cards

The plastic wallets have yet to arrive at the srudent shop and the cards haven’t been printed yet. The cards will be handed out in the future to members attending society events. Dave to put a note in the newsletter to this effect once the cards have been done.

Freshers Fayre + exec members

The FF was pretty successful. Tom to actually join Compsoc at some point! Alexis Birkill’s flatscreen goodness, and other assets, were very helful in attracting potential members to the stall. So far w’ve had 150 members, with promises of a few more yet. Unfortunately, Laura and Stacey were able to register as being on the exec – this is BAD. Henry to badger union to get them to change this. Tom Edwards and Phil Stoneman need to register as exec (both also need to attend meetings!)

Newsletter

This is fine in its current state, and should be mailed out today, once the mailing list has been updated.

Budget

Henry to mail the Finance Office about Animesoc getting consistently loads of money. Compsoc is considering buying a UPS and possibly another switch.

LAN

Signups to go live on Saturday at 12pm. There should be a note in the newsletter advertising the LAN, and saying that there is a booking for another room pending (so plenty of space available). Chris to continue bugging the right people about power limit for LIB2. If both rooms are used, exec to be spread evenly over both. No guests at the first LAN to give maximum opportunity to first years. Also advertise the LAN at the first social.

I14

Compsoc will not be running any kind of organised trip to this as not many people are going, so make your own arrangements if you are.

Academia + OSP

James to book meeting room once he gets a finance card. Henry to try to get aforementioned finance card. Several people at the FF offered to give talks, and hopefully we can get Salmon/Smith/Staines to give talks on stuff. Prod Phil to write his promised revision guide.

Bookets

The LUG apparently did do a page for this but weren’t able to get it to us in time, so we will go ahead with what we’ve done but put in a paragraph about them. Adam to print these in DCS at an appropriate moment.

Insomnia + Warwickpizza

Insomnia is essentially ready and we are waiting for confirmation from ITS that we can put it in their room. We are waiting for a response from Warwickpiazza about advertising the (soon to materialise) game servers.

Barclays

Henry to respond to them when he gets time/internet access simultaneously.

Finance

We have £162.12 in the bank as a society. We must find creative ways of spending this! (Hiring a hitman to kill the Lame probably shouldn’t be a suggestion)

Freshers Fayre

We should have a flatscreen running some games and the fruits of the OSP if possible. Henry/Adam/Chris to turn up at 9am (!) and set the stand up. They can cover things until 1pm, after which Dave can take over for the rest of the day. Any help from other exec members or experienced non-exec members also appreciated. We should try to put up some photos from previous LANs as well.

Membership Cards

Chris to print about 150 of these on Monday. We have 41 wallets so Henry to order another 100 of these. We also need to get drawing pins. Since we probably won’t have these ready in time, cards will be handed out at the first social instead of at the Fayre itself.

First Social

Will be held in “The Bar” on Friday of week 2 at 7pm. The exec should try to turn up a bit earlier so that we can make sure of getting a decent number of seats.

Next exec meeting

  1. pm on Thursday in The City Arms. Dave to mail Phil and badger him about turning up.

Gaming

The machines in ITS-011 have been upgraded and are now pretty damn sweet. Gaming sessions should resume as normal starting with the Friday of week 2 (after the first social). Dave to draft a “Welcome to Compsoc” newsletter detailing all the cool stuff the society does.
