1: Allnighter

Chris Smith has confirmed that this is from 9pm to 9am. It was also suggested that some posters be produced to try and whet both member and non-member interest in the event. Where we will get the T-shirts printed has not been decided, though it was decided that we ask LaserLizard for prices.

2: Locker / Pidgeon hole

All the lockers have been allocated for this year, but we now have a pidgeon hole in DCS common room. Mike said that people can leave things in his office, but that access was restriced to office hours only. Baz suggested that he could keep the gaming CD’s in his locker. It was said that we /must/ remember to get one next year, and Mike said that he could set that up sometime in the summer.

3: KPMG

No contact has been made yet, but it was recognised that any transport to and from KPMG could be met by the society.

4: Finance

Ryan has not yet enquired about buying game licences with the publications budget, but said that he will. It was noted that with the PCF subscription, there wasn’t much left for this year. It was also noted that we have not yet received a budget form for next year.

5: Elections

It was noted that there were currently no contested places. It was suggested that even if we didn’t have a vote, that we would still hold an AGM. It was decided that the position of Social Secretary should be added to the exec.

6: Paintball

This is being organised with PaintballSoc. It costs £12 deposit (£5 trans. £7 gear), which needs to be given as a cheque payable to UWSU by 3rd March, leaving the cheque on their noticeboard. An email also needs to be sent to paintballsoc@yahoo.com. It is to take place on 11th March (week 9). Mike has said that he can drive if this is needed.

7: Laserquest

Kuru has asked if the society is interest in a tournament verses FilmSoc. The exec agreed this would be fun, and asked Kuru to send an email with more details.

8: Members-only events

It was noted that some non-Compsoc members were attending the CSV gaming sessions. It was suggested that we could ask for membership cards, or charge a fee to non-members. This was also suggested throughout all Compsoc events that have been members-only.

9: Newsletter

Chris Smith to mail the members about the 2 exec positions not mentioned in the previous newsletter (Tech. Consultant and Social Sec), Paintball, LaserQuest, the Open-Source programming project. It was suggested that people submit a 300–500 word proposal on what they would like to do.

10: CSV Gaming

Baz to mail Dave about an increased quota on the gaming account.

The next meeting is set for ***WED 2pm***, meeting at the Fyshbowl.

1: KPMG

Mike to mail for more info.

2: ITS Gaming

These sessions have been extended until the end of term, though it is up to our discretion to cancel the events if demand on the machines is high for work. This Friday’s event is cancelled due to a lack of exec members able to co-ordinate the session. Chris Smith to mail ITS to tell them it is cancelled.

3: LAN Party

This Sunday’s LAN Party was cancelled, and the exec felt that these could now be slowed down now ITS gaming takes place.

4: Publications Budget

There was a lot of discussion as to what could be done with this money. Ryan is to ask if it is possible to purchase software licences with it, but for now it was decided to subscribe to PC Format. The hope is to hire a locker to keep back issues in, and keep the current issue a society pidgeon hole (in DCS). Stickers need to be made to fix to the magazines to show they are the property of Compsoc. Mike to investigate getting a locker and pidgeon hole.
It was also suggested that the society could host a page on their website for second hand CS books.

5: Exec Elections

The email has been sent out. Need to book a room soon for the elections and publish the election policy (i.e. having a non-Compsoc person chair the meeting).

6: Allnighter

The T-Shirt has been designed by Chris Smith, but probably need to be printed externally as we want colour on a black shirt.

7: Purchases

The exec agreed for the following purchases to be made:
* LS120 disks (for ITS gaming)
* CD-R’s (for ITS gaming)
* Gaffer Tape (for LAN Parties)

8: Nintendo Soc

The exec have no objections to this going ahead.

9: Software Project

It was suggested that Compsoc could organise a group Open Source software project for it’s members to get involved in. It was seen as a long term project, but something that might be useful and fun to do. Suggestions are to be solicited in the next newsletter.

The next meeting is set for ***WED 2pm***, meeting at the Fyshbowl.

1: ITS Gaming

Chris Smith to mail ITS (CSV) about a possible extension to our Frinay night gaming sessions. A questionnaire was also suggested that people attending the session could fill out regarding the day/timing of the sessions and other thoughts.

2: Magazine budget allowance

It was decided that as this money had been allocated, we should spend it on a magazine subscription, and the magazine chosen was PC FORMAT. Ryan to get the money from the SU, once Chris Salmon has found out the cost.

3: Allnighter LAN Party

This has been booked, but the society received a confimation which showed the event ending at midnight after the 9pm start. The time which was applied for was 9pm – 9am, and Chris Smith is to verify this with Senate House. It was also suggested that people might like to buy Compsoc ‘Allnighter’ T-Shirts, or have T-Shirts as competition/challenge prizes.

4: Other Socials

Many were suggested: Paintball, Ice Skating, Bowling. Chris Salmon to investigate the possibility of holding a paintball session near the end of term.

5: Exec Elections

It was decided that we should open nominations for the Compsoc Exec positions next year. This means there will be plenty of time for people to organise themselves and submit their nominations. Chris Smith to mail members.

6: SU Postbox

We received a note from the SU saying that we had failed to send one exec member to each of the Using your Union, Managing your Money and EquiOpps training courses. The exec felt that they had attempted, but that the SU cancelled all the sessions, and they would keep trying.
h5. Also, the Risk Assessment form for the society needs to be filled in.

The next meeting is set for ***WED 2pm***, meeting at the Fyshbowl.
