-Ruth: Hackathon will be Sunday of Week 9, to Monday.
-Also there is an iLab event Monday.
-IPSC, the internet prog comp, is this Saturday.
-Amazon voucher quite possibly prize for this, since we don’t have anything else planned.

Gaming

ACTION: Olibacon + Murtag to get advertisement posters sorted for BFL tournaments.
-Murtag: Peddle ordered.
-Moltenfire has very kindly offered to look after gaming this weekend.
-Adblax has also volunteered to help.

Tech

-james: Website guest signup is broken.
-james: Upgrading servers, aurora is done.
-james: backus upgraded over Saturday and Sunday.
-james: backus was not generating a new kernel image, ksplice installs its own version of devmod that fails.
-james: Suggests ksplice is removed permanently.
-zed0: Should check website to see what licenses we have for ksplice first.
-james: Would like to upgrade codd to Debian 7 soon, will need a planned outage.
ACTION: Argha to send email to 'Mr. T’ for access to codd, just in case.

Social

-ruth: We’re having a water fight at BBQ.

-Ruth: Still waiting on the date of the iLab hackathon to avoid clashing with our own hackathon.
-Ruth has emailed them and will follow this up.
-zed0 happy to do a talk next term.
ACTION: zed0 and Ruth to do talk next term.
-Ruth: Idea to post past exam paper solutions online.
-Consensus was to do so ensuring permissions from relevant people as we go along, i.e. DCS, professors, etc.
-Hopefully professors will check solutions, maybe provide marking schemes.
-Veltas: Stick email address in with solutions to prompt for corrections.
-We shall be ordering food for upcoming IPSC, held in same place as gaming.

Gaming

ACTION: Olibacon to buy Wiimote, 4 Wiimote Plus adapters, rechargeable AA batteries for Wiimotes as well as spares to allow continuous use whilst recharging.
-Turns out the shipping was really expensive for the Guitar Hero drum peddles, going to buy two cheap drum peddles instead.
-zed0 has decided to attempt to fix the current drum peddle.
-Gaming Officer is now officially Crumpet.
-Future sessions of gaming where Crumpet and Murtag are unavailable will quite possibly be covered by kind ex-exec.
-Ruth: Having at least one exec there is preferable, even if ex-exec are entrusted with clean-up, or maybe just nudge people out the door before 10am?

BFL

-Ruth: We should do some kind of a hacking project during BFL.
-Main prize at BFL will be a £20 Steam wallet voucher, purchased.
ACTION: Veltas to email pretty much everyone in the universe for possible sponsorship of BFL.

Tech

-Murtag: Should convince DCS to give us alternate boot to Windows in gaming room.
-zed0: Situation is; Windows is a no-go, even Ubuntu would work better (in USB-boot), but still security concerns from DCS.
ACTION: Argha to give Crumpet normal exec account privileges so he can, e.g., add himself to contact page.
ACTION: Crumpet to add himself on contact page.

Social

-BBQ can’t be booked on-campus for allotted time.
-zed0: Is kindly going to host the BBQ at his house, instead.
-Olibacon: Has booked football pitch for 11-12 this Sunday (that’s the midday 11-12, not night football).
-Crash running this Saturday, Ruth is going so will be a society thing.

ACTION: Murtag to buy Wii Sports for Wii and Modern Warfare 3 for 360.
-Decided tournament budget was £10 per tournament at BFL, £20 for main tournament.
ACTION: Murtag to email list of games companies that might sponsor BFL to Veltas.
ACTION: Veltas to ask games companies about sponsorship for BFL, Razer and Monster as ideas too.
-Consensus on broken drum peddle was it was worth buying the slightly more expensive drum peddle as it had very good performance reviews.
ACTION: Murtag to buy more expensive drum peddle for Guitar Hero, roughly £40.

Miscellaneous

-Veltas + olibacon: Meeting took too long.
-Veltas: Traditionally meetings are driven by the agenda.
ACTION: Exec with things to discuss at meetings to post agenda on forums in future.

Academic

-Ruth has found the SIBE hackathon to be completely fair for the programmers involved.
-Code will be used for open source not-for-profit reasons.
-It seems the organisers are hoping a campaign organisation will take it over.

Gaming

Recent LAN

Tournaments

-Murtag felt the tournaments at the recent LAN were reasonable.
-zed0: SC2 tournament could have started earlier.
-zed0: Should utilise a mic or something to control the events so everyone’s informed throughout.
-Veltas: Not enough preparation for CS:S tournament, was lots of fun but a little inconclusive.

Bins

-Ruth: We need to maintain the bin throughout the LAN.
-If it’s full, take it out. There are bin bags provided.
-dDirtus: Suggests recycling.
-Veltas: Should definitely arrange recycling for BFL, most rubbish in LANs is recyclable.
-It was suggested there was a bucket for left-over drink.
-zed0: Punishment for unplugging LAN is now drinking from the bucket.

Upcoming tournament prizes

-Upcoming tournament prizes were discussed.
-zed0: Not memory sticks, most people don’t need or want a 1GB memory stick.
-T-shirts, mugs, mouse mats suggested.
-Shirt sizes are hard to get right.
-Mugs should be exclusive prizes for gaming.
-dDirtus: Foam mug should be exclusive prize for DoTA.
ACTION: Murtag to research drum peddles for Guitar Hero etc..
-Considering getting a double bass.

BFL Sponsor

-It has now been repeatedly suggested that BFL should be somehow sponsored.
-There are a few local game companies that should be considered first.

Tech

ACTION: Argha to buy new Dijkstra stuff.
ACTION: james to do inventory.
-james: Loads of spare HDDs in there.
-Most of Dijkstra is anime music.
-Argha: Server now has SSL certificates now.

Boar website

-The boar would like us to host their website.
-They have said that we may not be able to meet their requirements with our usual service for society websites.
-Conclusion was to ask them specifically what they wanted, we’d likely be able to meet their requirements anyway, or they don’t need what they ask for.
ACTION: james to reply to their email.

Exciting Day

-Mentioned that there is traditionally an “exciting day” near end of term 3.
-Suggestion: look for theme parks with 2 for 1 or group discount.
-Possibility of not being able to do this from lack of transport / clashing with other stuff in the week.
-Suggestion: peddle-boat racing in Leamington Spa.
-Could be labelled “gaming tournament” in events to confuse people who arrive.
-dDirtus: “4 player co-op” as it’s 4 people to a peddle-boat.

Miscellaneous

-MikeCobra complains to Murtag that he still gets emails for the gaming president forwarding address.
-MikeCobra should complain to a tech officer, nobody here can actually fix that.
ACTION: Oli to hand-sow exec capes for everyone who turned up to this meeting at Ruth’s request. dDirtus may have a gold-trimmed cape for being ex-exec. Ruth may have a rainbow coloured cape.

Academic

-Looking at two prog comps later on in the term.
-Internet programming competition probably week 7.
-Google funded programming competition week 8 or 9.
-Veltas mentioned possibility of arranging an academic trip (for next academic year).
-Suggestions to organise sooner rather than later, with computing museum at Bletchley Park.
ACTION: Veltas (and possibly olibacon) to ask “FIRST DAY OF TERM 1 IN AND AMONGST FRESHERS” about minibus driving course.
-Ruth can’t make it to next year’s Fresher’s Fair.
-The more the merrier, if you can.

Gaming

-Discussion had about what consoles to get.
ACTION: Ruth to buy opportune £60 PS3.
-May also come with more offers of PS3 games that could be good to get.
-Suggested games to look into: CoD (which one yet to be decided).
-Also decided to buy a (roughly £300) Wii U.
-Murtag made very good point that it’s something to attract freshers (at Fresher’s Fair) as most people do not own or know anyone that owns a Wii U.
-Olibacon suggested Mario Party (9?) for Wii.
-Murtag suggested Soul Calibur V as we already play it enough.
-Olibacon: Need a couple more Wiimotes.
ACTION: Olibacon to buy Wii U and stuff.
-Murtag later stated he’d be buying games for Wii U.
-Zed0 reminds: need to sort out boxes / cupboards before BFL.

Response to Murtag’s Gaming Survey

-Overall, turns out people like games.
-Some said that they felt gaming was just “Dota & Smash Bros.”.
-As for what console was preferred, survey suggested slight inclination to PS3.

Upcoming LAN Party

-LAN to be held week 2’s weekend.
-Murtag to run some tournies during LAN.
ACTION: Murtag to buy some posters to advertise this.

Tournaments

-Murtag: There are to be tournaments every week, and at LANs.
-Prizes every week as an idea.
-zed0: “Give out branded compsoc stuff?”
-Full list of tournaments on #exec, to be mirrored in newsletter.

-These events were mentioned at meeting.
ACTION: To be documented as events (or whatever) on website by Murtag.

Talks and business connections

-Ruth is in communication with Google about their talk.
-Email the “backup company” to request a more technical idea suitable for a competition.

Speed progcomp

-It has been decided to wait for other other events to be scheduled before organizing another progcomp, although it is planned for the future.

IBM Hursley

-The trip will be subsidised by the society and we are currently awaiting a quote from the coach company by DCS.
-Students going on the trip will be required to make a deposit to make sure everyone who signs up attends.

Mentoring

-The mentoring program will be set up via the forum.

LAN

-Room bookings will be contacted to try and organize other societies and departments to rearrange their events so LIB2 can be used.

Gaming in L3

-Ultimately decided that it wasn’t worth the preparation and setup time to organize for a small extension of gaming.
-Gaming in LIB1 with a projector during LAN could be an alternative.

Fresher’s fair

-Zed0’s custom trackmania track will be used at the fair on Moltenfire’s laptop. Top three times will receive a prize this Friday.
-Ruth will request use of the department’s trolley to transport our equipment to the fair.

Laser quest social

-Zed0 has booked laser quest in Coventry for Wednesday of week 3; with a planned meetup on campus and joint bus ride to the event.

Programming competition

-We have decided to move the prizegiving for the bomberman programming competition to Tuesday to avoid clashes. The new time is 6pm week 2.
-All prizes have arrived and are ready for the competition.
-Action zed0 to organize judging of the competition.

Shell talk

-James has agreed to give a shell talk for new members who want to use our services. Action James to organize a time for the talk.

Barcraft

-We are planning a barcraft for the first term, but the specific event is still undecided.
-Event will probably take place on a Sunday, as the finals of all European events take place then despite problems with the Duck shutting earlier.
-Action: decide on an event next exec meeting so zed0 can book the Duck asap.

Future programming competitions:

-The idea of a one day programming competition was the most popular, with a set time limit for the tasks.
-The idea of a golf course was popular, but also problematic. Suggested that it was added as an extra to the other (3?) problems.

Christmas meal

-Wing-Wah’s will be booked for week 10. Monday night was a popular suggestion so it is after the end of term LAN.

Friday night gaming sessions in DCS

-Consoles will be brought in by members to help with possible demand.
-Idea to set up special Minecraft maps was popular (hunger games, deathmatch).
