Gaming Sessions
The University does not allow any games to be played on its machines at any time... except by us!
The Computing Society has exclusive permission from ITS to hold gaming sessions on their machines every week. We hold them in B2.08 - it's on the left on the way from the library to L3..
Games
Games we commonly play:
- TrackMania - Racing game/3D platformer with special physics.
- Warcraft 3 - DOTA, Tower Defence, and all sorts of other tricks.
- Raven Shield - Another run-around-military-styley FPS.
- Quake 3 - Oh yes, we can play it in ITS!
- TetriNET - Multiplayer Tetris. Accompanied by much shouting of insults.
- Dawn of War - Yet another real-time strategy with pink Space Marines.
- GTA 2 - Top-down multiplayer shoot-em-up with cars.
- BZFlag - Battlezone capture-the-flag with tanks.
We also have:
- Star Craft - Real-time strategy game, with games lasting up to 3 hours!
- Unreal Tournament - Undisputably better than Quake3. Apparently.
- Half-Life - Also with TFC.
- Total Annihilation - At last those hour-long games needn't cost a penny online, and you can see the expressions of the people you're playing with!
- Simon Tatham's puzzle games - including Solo and Mines.
Can I play other games not on the list?
Yes, if you'd like to play a game, bring it along and we'll do our best to install it - there are certain limitations on what the XP machines we use can run (due to permissions issues etc).
What about the legality of the games?
By signing up for a gaming session, members are agreeing to a declaration that they own a legal copy of any games they play. This excludes use of games that permit spawn copies to be played, etc.
So when can I play?
We always place gaming sessions on the events page so members can signup for them.
I want to play, but I'm not a member of the Computing Society
To meet the rules we agreed with ITS, only members of the society are permitted to play games at our gaming sessions in ITS. You can, of course, join to get in on the action.
Is there anything else I should know?
Please bring your Warwick Card (formerly known as your Library Card) to confirm your identity to every gaming session you attend.
In negotiating these sessions with ITS the exec agreed to the following rules, which you will be expected to obey at these events:
- No-one to alter any system configurations without approval from the Exec.
- No food, drink or smoking in the room provided.
- Those attending without signing up may be asked to give up their machine to someone who has.
- No loud noise or unruly behaviour, or you may be asked to leave.
