About the Society

CompSoc is one of the busiest societies at Warwick. We organise a variety of social and recreational activities, including:

  • Gaming sessions every Friday on the University’s PCs.
  • “XING”: A weekly project workshop every Friday evening alongside gaming.
  • LAN parties twice a term.
  • A weekly pub meal (on Mondays) for those who are interested.

Additionally, we have a variety of one-off socials. These have included:

  • go-karting
  • LaserQuest
  • some bowling trips
  • several pub crawls
  • the annual CompSoc barbeque.

We also run a variety of academic events, aimed at anyone with an interest in various aspects of computing. For example:

  • open source projects
  • coding events
  • guest lectures.

There are various fringe benefits available to members, such as our IRC network, free email and web hosting, and shell accounts on one of our servers. If you want to progress with your technical skills, you can join the techteam. We even have a Linux User Group, which meets regularly during term.

The society is open to anyone interested in any aspect offered by the society; people who are interested solely in the gaming and social side as opposed to the academic side, are welcome, and vice versa. If you want to join, you can find all the details on the our society page.

If you want to to know more about the society, why not contact the Exec? You can also read the minutes of all the exec meetings, and look through the archive of newsletters.
